Verbum Dei in Taiwan had a half-day pre-Easter activity. 5 non-Catholics with hardly any Christian background attended. We racked our brains to prepare for it. How can they understand the deep meaning of Easter? Of Christ's death and resurrection? What is the meaning for those who do not believe in Him, and yet for whom Christ had died and risen?

We centered all our activities on love, something that all could understand, but we tried to convey a love that goes beyond all that they had ever known. We had an activity of the washing-of-the-feet to express the love that goes ahead of our weaknesses. It is this love that gives meaning to all the little “deaths” that we experience in times of hopelessness, tiredness, anger, stress, etc. Then, we had a moment of conversion, where we seek to liberate our five senses in order to live for love alone. This was an activity called “Walk for Love”. Later, all the participants were invited to hunt for the treasure of Easter - Jesus himself, and we included little Easter eggs hidden along the way as aids to help us in our journey of love. We concluded the afternoon with a sharing of experiences, among which were: they were touched by the efforts we had put into the preparation of the activities, they felt the need to stop and re-fuel their hearts with love after a hectic week at work, they had fun and enjoyed the time together, sharing about the essentials of life.

Verbum Dei Taiwan wishes all a Happy Easter! May the Love of the Risen Christ enlighten us to always search for new ways to proclaim his Word and make the faith accessible to all peoples.
