The day has begun with much sun and the sky is an intense blue. It’s Sunday. The squirrel continues to “work” in the pine trees in front of the “Long Chapel” (for those who know the poblado, it is actually the “Chapel of the Manger”) as it has done throughout the years.

JaimeThe members of the symposium come together for prayer at 7:30am. Argentina welcomes us with the guitar and Beatriz Bedoya gives us the guidelines.

“We are here because we feel we are family.”

“Family is not just walking together, but it is creating communion.”

“What is our origin?”

“God would not have given you the capacity to dream if he hadn’t given you the capacity to fulfill your dreams.”

Presentation by Margarita Antonio presenting

And this then is how we enter into a day of work making present the history of Verbum Dei. Margarita Llauger leads us through the beginnings and Antonio Velasco accompanies us through the juridical configuration.

After dinnerThe dialogues and sessions have been flowing in a very fluid manner. Secretaries, moderators, and translators...  All of us are accompanying the rhythm. The radios make the simultaneous translation possible.

In the afternoon we have our first encounter with the group that we will accompany until the end of the Symposium. Different cultures, states of life, nationalities. We have a precise methodology, focused work and secretaries.

We must recognize that it is easy to inter-relate with one another. The joy of seeing each other, and meeting one another helps a lot … to enter into contact with Cameroon or Taiwan, Philippines or Singapore!!

First female missionariesThe Eucharist has been festive. The missionaries from the “early times” welcome us. Asuncion in the introduction, Maria Forteza in the homily. Music from the beginning times: “Mar Adentro”, “Mumareta” (Mommy in Mallorquin).

The Symposium is on its way and the participation is active, the attitude is one of co-responsibility. We are all united with one same hope and one same Spirit. God wants it and so do we. The world needs us.

Hopefully we will be faithful to this “Hour” that God is giving us.
