The core community consists of perpetually professed missionaries who are free of all commitments to dedicate themselves full time to prayer and ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4). "In view of the situation of the world, and hearing the cries of the members of Christ's Body, our brothers and sisters, we will feel exhaustively taken by the urgency of the mission at hand; then neither the day nor the night will suffice in order to attend to it." (Constitutions VDMF #32) This core community is constantly "on call" to attend to the needs of the Fraternity, the disciples and the apostolate. |

The formation course or "novitiate" is located in San Francisco, where the novices assimilate and grow in the charism of the Verbum Dei community. They mainly dedicate their time to prayer and intensive formation in the spirituality and identity of the VDMF.

Since San Francisco is the center for Formation, there is also a large group of temporally professed missionaries who are forming themselves for a life of ministry. Some are in the process of completing their philosophical studies, and others are working on their Masters of Divinity at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. |
